> Tax, Discount & Pay Calculators

These are the quick calculations that come up in everyday life and small business: adding tax to a price or taking it out, working out a percentage, finding a sale price, converting an hourly wage into a yearly salary, or splitting a restaurant bill.

The GST and VAT calculators add tax to a net price or remove it from a gross price, with quick rate buttons for several countries. The Percentage Calculator and Discount Calculator handle percent-of, percent change and sale prices. The Hourly to Salary calculator converts pay both ways, and the Tip Calculator splits a bill with a tip.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I remove tax from a price that already includes it?

Toggle answer
Divide the price by 1 plus the tax rate. For a 20% rate, divide by 1.20: a price of 120 contains 100 of net price and 20 of tax. Subtracting 20% from 120 would remove too much. The GST and VAT calculators do this for you in their inclusive mode.

What is the difference between GST and VAT?

Toggle answer
Both are consumption taxes collected at each step of the supply chain, with businesses reclaiming the tax they paid on purchases. The name and rates depend on the country: for example VAT in the UK and EU, and GST in India, Australia, Canada and Singapore. The calculation is the same, so you can enter any rate.

Is the hourly-to-salary result before or after tax?

Toggle answer
It is gross pay, before income tax and other deductions. Overtime, bonuses and benefits are not included, and your take-home pay will be lower.
